OpenTreeMap: A Tree Tracking App for Your Phone
The public is invited to watch Tree Balboa Park’s progress and learn interesting facts about all the park’s trees by downloading the OpenTreeMap app at the Google Play or iTunes store and select “San Diego Tree Tracker” to begin exploring (or view in your web browser). After zooming in on the Balboa Park area of the map, tap on a specific tree location to learn the tree’s name, dimensions, condition, environmental benefits profile, and more. Deeper content and a full report on the park’s tree inventory will be updated periodically.
San Diego Botanic Garden Tour
“To inspire people of all ages to connect with plants and nature.” The San Diego Botanic Garden offers a variety of self-guided, adult group tours, and youth group tours. A docent-guided general tour, is offered every Saturday, meet at the Visitor’s Center/Gift Shop. No reservations required. Free with admission.

The Water Conservation Garden TOUR
Visitors of all ages can explore The Garden on a self-guided tour on nearly six acres of displays, exhibits, and landscapes highlighting water conservation and water-wise plants. With paid admission, a free Docent-led tour meets at the Plaza on the first Saturday of every month. Children’s fieldtrips, group garden tours, and ADA shuttle tours are available upon request. Reservations are required, contact 619-660-0614, ext. 16.

San Diego Japanese Friendship Garden
The Japanese Friendship Garden (JFG) is an expression of friendship between San Diego and its sister city, Yokohama. It illustrates two cultures and creates an immersive experience into Japanese culture. JFG’s design is based on centuries-old Japanese techniques adapted to San Diego’s climate. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for Seniors (65+), students, and military with I.D. Children younger than 6 are admitted free. The free Balboa Park public tours are offered on Tuesdays and Fridays - both days at 11:00 am.
The Tuesday tours, plus 2nd, 4th & 5th Friday tours are guided by highly trained Forever Balboa Park volunteer tour guides.
The 1st & 3rd Friday Balboa Park Heritage Tours are offered by Committee of One Hundred.11:00 am
All Tuesday & Friday public tours begin outside the the Balboa Park Visitors Center at 1549 El Prado.
